On the heels of an electrifying week in Jackson, Mississippi, the PGA Tour is traveling overseas to Japan for its yearly competition. Seventy-eight competitors in all – 60 from the PGA Tour, nine from the Japan Golf Tour, and nine on exemptions – will participate at Yokohama Country Club as the Bill Coore & Ben Crenshaw design is highlighted and hosts the 2025 Baycurrent Classic for the first time.

Yokohama Country Club, which features holes from both the East and West Courses, will present a number of obstacles off the tee for players, as the par 71 layout represents a typical, tree-lined course common to Japan. This could be beneficial to certain golfers with links to the nation, such as U.S. Ryder Cup participants Xander Schauffele and Collin Morikawa, both of whom are journeying across the ocean.

The world No. 4 aims to carry over the energy from his Ryder Cup showing at Bethpage Black, where he achieved a 3-1-0 record while representing the United States. His ball striking has steadily improved, and as he seeks to recapture his 2024 form that helped him secure a pair of major titles, Schauffele has a prime opportunity to get a victory in the same nation where he earned an Olympic gold medal two years prior.

Schauffele and Morikawa have both seen success in Japan. Morikawa, a two-time major champion and winner of the Zozo Championship two years back, is seeking his first victory since then. Though he has had a relatively quiet 2025, the dependable right-hander could shift gears before the holidays with a significant performance in Japan.

Additional Ryder Cup players such as Rasmus Højgaard, along with vice captains Alex Noren and Gary Woodland, are also expected to compete, while Hideki Matsuyama of Japan will be hoping to win another title in his home country. Wyndham Clark, Min Woo Lee, Sungjae Im, Max Homa, and recent French Open champion Michael Kim are also making the trip for what is predicted to be a fiercely competitive tournament during the FedEx Cup Fall.

  • Xander Schauffele (10-1)
  • Collin Morikawa (16-1): Morikawa may not have had the 2025 season he envisioned, but that could change over 72 holes. As the eighth-ranked player in the Official World Golf Rankings, Morikawa is positioned to take advantage of his affinity for confined, tree-lined golf courses. His performance at the Ryder Cup was lackluster, but with a strong diet of fairways and greens on the horizon, Morikawa could thrive if his putting improves.
  • Hideki Matsuyama (18-1): Matsuyama, the 2021 champion of this tournament, hopes to rediscover that form this week as he aims for his first top-10 finish since the beginning of the year. Though he won at the Sentry, Matsuyama has not been able to duplicate that showing. He demonstrated his iron play with a T13 finish at the BMW PGA Championship, but his driver remains uncertain. This week, he will need to find answers to give the local fans something to celebrate.
  • Chris Gotterup (20-1)
  • Alex Noren (20-1): Noren is among the hottest golfers globally right now, arriving at the Baycurrent Classic having won two of his last three events. Coming out of a playoff victorious at Wentworth for his second BMW PGA Championship title, the Swedish golfer is full of confidence, his iron play having improved to match his consistent effectiveness on the greens.
  • Rasmus Højgaard (22-1): Despite not seeing much action at Bethpage Black under Luke Donald, Højgaard is excelling. Following his Ryder Cup debut, the Danish golfer immediately entered the Sanderson Farms Championship, needing a strong showing to secure his PGA Tour status. He responded with a T3 result, ascending to No. 75 in the FedEx Cup standings. He now boasts three podium finishes in his last five competitions worldwide.
  • Kurt Kitayama (22-1)
  • Si Woo Kim (25-1)
  • Kevin Yu (28-1)
  • Min Woo Lee (30-1): After a strong run of form, the missed cut at the Sanderson Farms Championship ended it for the exciting Australian. Lee finished T11 at the BMW PGA Championship, which he followed up with a competitive performance at the French Open before finishing T5. He has plenty to play for in the coming week and for the remainder of the year regarding the Aon Next 10 (positions 51-60 in the FedEx Cup standings), where he is ranked 57th, and the year-end top 50 in the OWGR, which determines major championship invitations and where he currently ranks 43rd in the world.
