Max Verstappen was recognized as the leading Formula 1 competitor of the 2025 season, based on assessments from team principals, fellow drivers, and the collective opinion of Autosport along with its audience.
F1 requested that all existing team leaders and competitors provide their individual top 10 selections, using a 25-18-15-12-10-8-6-4-2-1 scoring method to generate distinct rankings. Neither Red Bull nor Ferrari had any representatives participating in this poll, and Lewis Hamilton, Nico Hulkenberg, Yuki Tsunoda, and Lance Stroll similarly opted out.
Stuart Codling and Jake Boxall-Legge, F1 journalists, compiled their distinct list, concurrently, Autosport’s readership contributed to a top 10 compiled from their cumulative average ratings for each race.
Verstappen secured the leading position across all four evaluations; however, the competition immediately following him was particularly close among Lando Norris, George Russell, Oscar Piastri, and Charles Leclerc. The recently crowned world champion marginally outperformed Mercedes’ primary driver, his colleague at McLaren, and Ferrari’s best competitor.
These five individuals were broadly recognized as the season’s top five performers, even though team principals generally positioned Leclerc below Fernando Alonso and Carlos Sainz. The Spanish drivers were among several mid-field contenders vying for a spot in the top six, a group that also saw Hulkenberg appear twice; Isack Hadjar stood out as the sole mid-field driver to be present in every single top 10.
Lewis Hamilton, Liam Lawson, Esteban Ocon, Lance Stroll, Yuki Tsunoda, and Gabriel Bortoleto did not appear in any of the top 10 lists, a sentiment shared for part-time participants Jack Doohan and Franco Colapinto.
