Latest TE Updates

  • Darren Waller, Dolphins – NFL players rarely succeed when they come out of retirement, so Waller has a difficult path to regaining fantasy relevance. It definitely helps that his new OC is his former tight ends coach, Frank Smith, but competing for targets with Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, and De’Von Achane will be difficult. Keep in mind that Waller’s best years occurred when he was among the Raiders’ best receiving threats. He won’t be expected to shine as brightly in Miami. I’ve placed him within the large group of fantasy TE2s who could become low-end TE1 producers if circumstances align favorably.

  • Jonnu Smith/Pat Freiermuth, Steelers – Smith’s trade to Pittsburgh significantly harms the fantasy prospects of both him and Freiermuth. Before this agreement, Smith was on track for another top-10 season, and Freiermuth was approaching the bottom of the TE1 range in my rankings. They have now both entered the aforementioned TE2 range with Waller and will be challenging to depend on in your lineup each week.
