Similar to their PGA Tour colleagues, LIV Golf has reached its version of postseason competition with a sequence of three weeks that starts in the Chicago area before heading to Indianapolis and then Michigan for the team competition.
The subsequent two weeks are crucial for deciding the individual champion, as player ranks are solidified following the 13th tournament, which redirects all consideration to team play for the year’s closing week.
Following his fifth victory of this season at LIV Golf UK, Joaquin Niemann (206.8) has reclaimed his lead ahead of Jon Rahm (169.16) in the individual standings, with Bryson DeChambeau (136.24) positioned third. To date, he’s secured nearly half the victories on the LIV calendar (five of eleven), and Rahm will require extraordinary performances across the next two tournaments to keep Niemann from securing the year-end individual title.
Fortunately for Rahm, his triumph occurred in Chicago the previous year — narrowly surpassing Niemann — thus if a final charge toward competing with Niemann for the individual title is to occur, he is advancing to a venue that favors him.
Concerning team standings, Rahm’s Legion XIII extended their lead over DeChambeau’s Crushers upon securing the team victory in the UK. Currently, they hold a lead of 46.66 points over the Crushers as they enter this critical phase. The competition for second place is much closer between the Crushers (172) and Fireballs (155), while the teams positioned from fourth to sixth — 4Aces, Ripper, and Torque — are all within a margin of less than nine points.
Teams leading the standings will be offered the chance to select their competitors for the match play segment of the team championships scheduled in Michigan in three weeks. Consequently, for those teams engaged in the race for a top-six spot, being a higher seed is valuable as it allows the first pick of the weaker teams ranked at the bottom.
Here’s the details on how you can view the beginning of the three-week stretch of LIV Golf as the individual championship nears its conclusion and teams vie for position leading into the team championship.
