The field for the FedEx Cup Playoffs has been trimmed to 30 competitors. The 2025 Tour Championship will once again be the venue for those proficient enough to navigate the initial two playoff stages and secure a spot in the postseason finale, where a substantial $10 million prize will be awarded to the ultimate victor of the week.
In contrast to previous Tour Championships that employed a staggered commencement, this year’s edition will witness all 30 participants commencing their tournaments at even par, thereby affording each player an equivalent opportunity to claim the FedEx Cup title. Scottie Scheffler, the current world No. 1, naturally spearheads this group as he aims to become the first individual to consecutively triumph in the season-long competition.
Scheffler will initiate his title defense at 2 p.m. ET on Thursday, accompanied by Rory McIlroy, who holds the record for the most FedEx Cup victories (three). Prior to the top two contenders in the FedEx Cup standings stepping onto the first tee at East Lake Golf Club, a selection of distinguished pairings will grace the course.
Among these is the duo commencing precisely two hours before the final tee time, featuring Viktor Hovland and Collin Morikawa, who will initiate their tournaments at noon. Having been associated since their collegiate days and transitioning to professional status around the same period, this pair inaugurates a sequence of pairings that could potentially be observed in a month’s time at Bethpage Black – albeit on opposing sides.
Cameron Young, the victor of the Wyndham Championship, is paired with Swedish sensation Ludvig Åberg at 12:49 p.m., preceding the Georgia Bulldogs representatives, Russell Henley and Sepp Straka, at 1:27 p.m. The penultimate pairing comprises two U.S. Open champions, Justin Rose and this year’s victor, J.J. Spaun, at 1:49 p.m.
Let’s examine all 15 pairings slated for the opening round of the 2025 Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club.
