The PGA Tour’s West Coast series is gaining momentum as 147 golfers head to one of the most picturesque venues on the tour schedule. Both the North and South Courses at Torrey Pines will host competitors for the 2026 Farmers Insurance Open, an event where a contingent of 10 players from the top 20 in the Official World Golf Rankings will vie for the third championship trophy of this nascent season.
A notable participant not ranked within that top 20 this week is arguably the biggest name of all: Brooks Koepka. The 35-year-old is making his inaugural appearance on the PGA Tour since the 2022 WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play, marking his comeback to the circuit following a four-year tenure with LIV Golf.
Granted reentry to the PGA Tour via the recently established Returning Member Program, Koepka is obligated to participate in a complete PGA Tour calendar, although he is currently excluded from the higher-profile signature events. Consequently, the five-time major winner is set to become a regular presence in these full-field tournaments; in addition to his PGA Tour reintroduction at Torrey Pines this week, he has already committed to next week’s WM Phoenix Open and the upcoming Cognizant Classic.
Koepka’s participation in the lineup also necessitated the addition of two extra spots to form complete threesomes.
While Koepka aims to gradually reintegrate into a regular competition schedule, other prominent golfers like Xander Schauffele and Cameron Young are also commencing their seasons. Their performances diverged significantly in 2025, with Schauffele missing qualification for the Tour Championship field for the first time in his professional career, while Young secured his maiden career victory at the Wyndham Championship.
Both athletes distinguished themselves playing for the United States team in the Ryder Cup and intend to carry that impetus into the new year, competing alongside current champion Harris English, U.S. Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley, and fellow team member J.J. Spaun, as well as European talents such as Justin Rose and Ludvig Åberg, and Sony Open victor Chris Gotterup.

Competitors and Odds for the 2026 Farmers Insurance Open
Odds provided by DraftKings Sportsbook
- Xander Schauffele (15-1)
- Ludvig Åberg (17-1): The youthful Swedish golfer performed commendably at Torrey Pines last season, leading the Farmers Insurance Open for much of the event before being sidelined by illness over the final days. He later retaliated with a win at the Genesis Invitational on the very same course just weeks later. Åberg was compelled to withdraw from the American Express last week due to sickness, yet he appears ready to rejoin competition at a course where his playing style is known to excel.
- Cameron Young: (18-1): Many anticipate a breakthrough season for Young, but with the exception of a strong showing at the Genesis Invitational several seasons ago, the West Coast Swing has not historically favored him. He enters this year as a PGA Tour winner, a celebrated Ryder Cup participant, and coming off the most successful putting season of his career. Young has rediscovered his preferred shot shape and possesses the power suited for Torrey Pines, which boasts some of the densest rough and narrowest fairways players encounter throughout the season.
- Patrick Cantlay (23-1)
- Si Woo Kim (24-1): Kim might be regarded as the finest ball striker globally, excluding Scottie Scheffler. As the 54-hole frontrunner at the American Express, the four-time PGA Tour winner faltered during the mid-portion of his round and was ultimately surpassed by the world’s top-ranked player. Nevertheless, this outcome marked his second consecutive strong performance to kick off his campaign, and he aims to adapt his game to the more formidable, robust challenge presented by Torrey Pines. He has achieved two top 25 finishes in his last three appearances but has yet to place within the top 10 across eight career starts.
- J.J. Spaun (25-1)
- Chris Gotterup (29-1): He persistently demonstrates his capability to excel when conditions demand wind negotiation, a touch of ingenuity, and precise shot shaping. Gotterup secured his third PGA Tour title in as many seasons at the Sony Open, and he should be eager to test his skills at Torrey Pines, where he previously landed a top 25 finish in his sole prior visit. Equipped with considerable power and delicate touch, the right-handed player possesses the attributes to sustain his momentum on the mainland.
- Hideki Matsuyama (29-1): He boasts nine consecutive made cuts at Torrey Pines and arrives fresh from a T13 at the Sony Open, where his iron play was exceptional, though his putting proved challenging — a typical pattern for Matsuyama. The difficulty of putting from within 15 feet and inside 5 feet this week ranks among the toughest on the PGA Tour, which could slightly equalize the playing field and benefit his approach. His iron game remains unparalleled, and skilled scramblers have historically performed well in this tournament, adding another advantage for Matsuyama.
- Maverick McNealy (31-1)
- Jason Day (31-1)
- Harris English (31-1)
