Myktybek Orolbai and Tofiq Musayev clashed in a Lightweight showdown earlier tonight (Sat. June 21, 2025) at UFC Baku, which took place inside Baku Crystal Arena in Baku, Azerbaijan, and aired live on ABC. Orolbai secured a dominant victory, winning via kimura in the first round.
From the opening bell, Orolbai signaled his intention to grapple, immediately shooting for a single leg takedown. Musayev initially escaped with impressive athleticism, leaping away from the attempt. However, Orolbai soon caught Musayev’s kick, landed a left hand, and successfully brought the fight to the ground.
Once in top position, Orolbai’s size and strength advantage were evident, perhaps amplified by the last-minute catchweight situation. Musayev fought valiantly to return to his feet and entertain the home crowd, but Orolbai repeatedly took him back down to the mat.
Musayev managed to land a few strikes on the feet, including a notable uppercut, but the effort clearly took a toll on his energy levels. Moments before the end of the first round, Orolbai transitioned to a kimura from half guard, stepped over Musayev’s head, and locked in the submission for the finish.

This impressive grappling display marks a strong rebound for Orolbai after his first UFC loss. If he can consistently make weight, the Kazakh prospect remains a significant threat at 155-pounds. If not, he could still be a force to be reckoned with at Welterweight!
Regardless of weight class, he is a dangerous competitor.
