India vs. England, Third Test : India Experiences Heartbreak, Misses Heroic Chase by 22 Runs

Mohammed Siraj and Ravindra Jadeja’s valiant stand comes to an end. In the 75th over of the last innings, Shoaib Bashir takes out Mohammed Siraj, giving the home team a 2-1 series advantage. India Experiences Heartache But Does Not Act Heroically Chase’s great days of cricket in Test matches ended in a devastating way at the end. A slice of bad luck undid Mohammed Siraj, and it was those narrow margins that gave England the opportunity to finish the comeback with a historic 22-run victory at Lord’s and take a 2-1 series lead heading to Manchester.

At Lord’s on Monday, India and England square off in the third Test match, which is tense. Both sides have an equal chance going into Day 5, so it’s still anybody’s game. It appeared to be a simple task after India was given a 193-run target. But with England in the match, the visitors faltered to 58/4 after losing four expensive wickets in just 17.4 overs. It was all drama as the hosts claimed three wickets in the final half. Yashasvi Jaiswal, the opener, went out for a duck, giving India a bad start. KL Rahul, who is still undefeated, tried to steady the chase with Karun Nair. However, Nair made the stupid decision to leave for 14 off 33 balls in the 13th over, giving up his wicket to Brydon Carse. When a hostile England camp greeted captain Shubman Gill, the floodgates opened, and they attacked him immediately. After facing nine balls and scoring six runs, Gill was caught plumb in front by Carse.

The nightwatchman, who was disguised as pacer Akash Deep, was sent in by India to try to steady the ship, but he was dismissed by Ben Stkes in the day’s last over. On Day 5, new batsman Rishabh Pant will join Rahul (33*), who will resume batting. The two had been in a similar predicament before, having had to spearhead the comeback in the first innings. Carse and Archer will be relied upon by England to maintain their performance from the day before, when the former hit two runs in four overs, claiming a maiden and giving up just 11 runs at an economy of 2.75. Meanwhile, Archer took a wicket, conceded 18 runs in four overs at an economy of 4.50.

India put more pressure on England immediately after both teams scored 387 in the first innings. Mohammed Siraj and Nitish Kumar Reddy dismissed openers Ben Duckett (12) and Zak Crawley (22) early. At number three, Ollie Pope met a similar end when he was caught for four off 17 balls by Siraj. Through a partnership between Joe Root (40) and Harry Brook (23), England did attempt to fight. Stokes (33), the captain, also joined Root, but Washington Sundar was not dealt with by the English order. Then, when England collapsed at 192, Sundar, helped by Jasprit Bumrah, wiped out the lower order. Sundar claimed four wickets for India, while Bumrah and Siraj both claimed two. Akash Deep and Nitish, meanwhile, each took wicket.
