At the Cincinnati Open, Britain’s Jacob Fearnley experienced an initial setback, losing in the first round to Zizou Bergs.
Fearnley, participating in his inaugural appearance at the competition, was defeated by the Belgian with a score of 6-1, 6-4.
The 24-year-old, positioned at number 55 globally, a mere three spots beneath Bergs, faced difficulties during his initial encounter with the 26-year-old player.
Fearnley encountered nine opportunities for his opponent to break his serve, conceding four, while managing to capitalize on only one of the two break points he himself secured.
This loss follows a previous first-round elimination at the Canadian Open.
