With the pro football season about to kick off, the Detroit Lions have made a long term commitment to wide receiver Jameson Williams, inking him to a three-year deal. The former first-round pick from 2022 has agreed to a contract extension reported to be worth as much as $83 million, according to sources at ESPN.

Williams has progressively become a more valuable piece of the Lions offensive scheme. After appearing in only six matchups his initial season in 2022, Williams participated in 12 contests in 2023, securing 24 passes out of 42 attempts, totaling 354 receiving yards and a pair of scores. He was already obligated via contract through the 2026 season before agreeing to this extended commitment.

Williams distinguished himself as a true blue-chip prospect during the previous campaign, amassing 58 receptions for 1,001 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. Additionally, he rushed for 61 yards along the ground, including a touchdown during the team’s playoff defeat to the Commanders.

Williams joins Amon-Ra St. Brown as the most recent Lions pass catchers to be rewarded with lucrative contract extensions lately. St. Brown agreed to a four-year deal worth $120 million prior to the 2024 pro football selection event.

The Lions are placing substantial investment into their present roster and enter the campaign as one of the favorites to capture the championship, according to DraftKings projections. Detroit is currently listed at +1400 odds to hoist the Lombardi trophy at season’s conclusion.

The Lions will begin their season versus the Green Bay Packers this Sunday. Detroit is offered at +110 to secure victory in their season opener.
