RFU Gets Cash Boost from Record-Breaking Springboks

Having witnessed what many are calling a landmark performance from their national team, supporters of the Springboks have been rapidly acquiring tickets for the Rugby Championship’s concluding match against Argentina at Allianz Stadium, Twickenham, scheduled for Saturday, October 4th.

Sources indicate a notable increase in ticket purchases following the Springboks’ decisive 43-10 victory over the All Blacks, bringing the current total of tickets sold to 65,000.

Inspired by the showing in Wellington, numerous Springboks supporters based in Europe are keen to be present for the event, while fans of Los Pumas are hopeful that a potential first-ever Rugby Championship title will still be within reach when the match commences, following their encounter with the reigning world champions in Durban the preceding week.

Currently, the standings show only a two-point gap separating the leading team, Australia, from Los Pumas, who are in fourth position, as they approach the second-to-last round.

With just over two weeks remaining until the game, there is still opportunity for the attendance numbers to approach the 80,827 spectators who attended South Africa’s victory over the All Blacks at Twickenham on the eve of the 2023 Rugby World Cup.

While achieving a complete sellout of 82,000 at Allianz Stadium may be challenging, the commercial entities involved in the game, including the RFU, will undoubtedly be satisfied with the response received thus far.

The Springboks have also played at this venue twice in 2024, against Wales and England, and are becoming more and more comfortable with the south-west London location. They will return there once again, on November 1st, for an Autumn Nations Series game against Japan, commemorating the tenth anniversary of the ‘Miracle of Brighton’ match during the 2015 Rugby World Cup.

The upcoming match is set to be only the second Rugby Championship game played beyond the primary territories of Argentina, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa. Argentina relinquished their home advantage and consented to face Australia at Twickenham in 2016, ultimately losing by a score of 33-21. The reported attendance on that day was 48,515.

Tickets with prices starting from £31.50 remain available through Ticketmaster.
