Draper Teams Up with Delgado, Murray’s Ex-Coach

After parting ways with Grigor Dimitrov a month ago, following a three-year collaboration, Delgado’s most notable achievements remain linked to his time with Murray.

Upon becoming the primary coach for the Scottish player in May 2016, succeeding Amelie Mauresmo, he likely didn’t foresee the remarkable success that was on the horizon.

Murray achieved his inaugural French Open final appearance in June, secured his second Wimbledon victory in July, and concluded the year as the top-ranked player globally by triumphing in his final 24 matches of the season.

Though hip complications became a persistent issue in the subsequent year, Delgado maintained his support for Murray for an additional five years.

He is expected to be the primary source of guidance for Draper, who, at 23 years old, has previously acknowledged facing difficulties with having two coaches.

Wayne Ferreira, from South Africa, briefly joined the team during the past summer and assisted Draper in clinching his initial ATP title in Stuttgart in June. However, he departed by August, with Draper expressing a preference for simplicity.

“My intention was for Wayne to remain a part of my team for the long run,” he stated at the US Open that August.

“Personally, I tend to overanalyze things, so I prefer to maintain simplicity as much as possible.

“I felt it was better to have a single voice.”

Delgado is not the first individual with ties to Murray to become part of the team, as Draper had previously recruited physio Shane Annun and fitness coach Matt Little at the beginning of the year.

The player currently ranked eighth in the world intends to make his return to competition at the UTS Grand Final in London, a three-day event scheduled for December.

After securing victory in his first-round match at the US Open, the arm injury compelled him to withdraw from the tournament. However, he has been consistently training at the National Tennis Centre in London in recent weeks.
