According to an announcement made by the French Football Federation on Friday, Kylian Mbappé has departed from the French national team and will be returning to Madrid for assessments on his injured ankle.
The 26-year-old Real Madrid attacker, found the net twice against Ukraine in Paris on Thursday, securing the 2018 World Cup champions’ participation in the 2026 tournament.
Achieving his 400th career goal with his pair of scores, he is set to miss Les Bleus’ upcoming match in Azerbaijan on Sunday.
The determination to send him back home, a joint decision made by Didier Deschamps and the Real Madrid medical professionals, was prompted by the ongoing swelling and discomfort in his ankle, a condition he has experienced for a period of time.
He is scheduled to undergo scans in Madrid later in the day on Friday, although sources have indicated to ESPN that the injury is not considered to be severe.
The Mbappé announcement follows shortly after the confirmation that fellow Madrid player, midfielder Eduardo Camavinga, has also departed the French training camp due to a slight muscular issue.
Real Madrid are scheduled to play Elche on Sunday, Nov. 23, before heading to Athens to compete against Olympiacos in the Champions League on Nov. 26.
