The exhibition event, entitled ‘Gender Challenge’, featuring Aryna Sabalenka against Nick Kyrgios, is scheduled for broadcast on BBC One on December 28th.
Sabalenka, currently ranked as the world’s top female player and possessing four Grand Slam singles victories, will compete against Kyrgios, a former finalist at Wimbledon, in Dubai.
Sabalenka, representing Belarus and aged 27, has demonstrated significant prominence on the Women’s Tennis Association circuit over the preceding 24 months, securing two titles at both the Australian Open and the US Open throughout her professional journey.
Kyrgios, hailing from Australia and aged 30, achieved the runner-up position at the 2022 Wimbledon Championships. However, he has participated in a limited number of matches – specifically, five – during the year 2025 due to an extended period of inactivity caused by a wrist ailment.
The format of the contest is designed to span a maximum of three sets, incorporating a tie-break to ten points in the event of a deciding set.
