A video has surfaced depicting a practice field confrontation, resulting in a four-game suspension for NSW Waratahs second-rower Miles Amatosero.
On Saturday, the Waratahs verified the disciplinary action, which followed what they termed a “training incident” that occurred earlier this month. According to a report by the Sydney Morning Herald, recent recruit Angus Scott-Young sustained a broken eye socket after being hit multiple times during the practice session.
A statement announced, “Rugby Australia and the NSW Waratahs confirm that Miles Amatosero has been handed a four-game suspension subsequent to a formal investigation into a training field occurrence earlier this month.”
“Amatosero has the option to halve his suspension to two games by successfully finishing counselling and educational courses.
“He will not participate in the Waratahs’ forthcoming exhibition games versus the Reds and Brumbies.”
A video showing the aggressive confrontation between the 6’8″, 125kg Amatosero and the 6’4″, 108kg loose forward Scott Young – a clash that included several other participants and appeared to unfold in two distinct phases – is currently circulating widely on social media, having been initially released by Code Sports.

The physical altercation brought to mind notorious practice field brawls from history. Alun Wyn Jones and Jake Ball engaged in a fight when a Wales training session escalated, and Danny Cipriani was rendered unconscious by Wasps fullback Josh Lewsey during a comparable heated moment in a practice. However, unlike those past events, the reported injury sustained by Scott-Young has prevented this scuffle from being kept private.
Should Amatosero choose to reduce the penalty by half, he would only miss the two exhibition matches scheduled against the Queensland Reds and ACT Brumbies.
The Waratahs will commence their Super Rugby Pacific season with three home encounters, welcoming the Reds and Fijian Drua before a bye in round three, and then hosting the Hurricanes in round four.
Amatosero, who is 23 years old, became part of the Waratahs squad in 2024, following a three-season stint with Clermont Auvergne in the Top 14 league, during which he featured in 31 games, starting in 10 of them.
