Raducanu reaches first final since US Open triumph

Raducanu experienced a lackluster second-round elimination at the Australian Open in January and subsequently terminated her association with coach Francisco Roig.

Nonetheless, she has displayed considerable resilience throughout her journey in Romania to reach the final round.

“I am incredibly proud of how I contended, how I recovered in the third set, and my approach to managing the game,” Raducanu remarked.

“I don’t believe I could have achieved this without everyone’s encouragement here, so thank you profoundly.”

Raducanu’s father, Ion, originates from Bucharest, and a weary but elated Raducanu briefly addressed the spectators in Romanian following her triumph.

Only the local favorite, Sorana Cirstea, now stands between Raducanu and her inaugural trophy in half a decade.

Raducanu was unable to conclude the opening set on her initial opportunity, allowing Oliynykova to break back before claiming the subsequent two games—finalizing it after an arduous seventy-five minutes.

However, the top seed’s momentum further deteriorated in the second set, and she conceded her serve three times as Oliynykova compelled a deciding set, where Raducanu was compelled to rally from a break deficit.

And after squandering her first two match points at 5-3, the British competitor fended off two break-back opportunities and served out the victory on her third attempt.

This win broke Raducanu’s streak of six consecutive losses in deciding sets, and it marked her first three-set victory since she defeated Ann Li in the first round of Eastbourne in June.
