Collin Sexton’s contention with the hoop at the Barclays Center venue resulted in a financial penalty.
On Tuesday evening, the National Basketball Association imposed a $35,000 monetary penalty on the Chicago Bulls’ guard for an offensive gesture directed at the rim during his team’s 123-115 defeat by the Brooklyn Nets on Monday.
During the latter part of the third quarter, Sexton was taking foul shots; his initial effort missed. Although Sexton successfully converted his subsequent shot, he instantly fixated on the basket and extended his left middle digit in an infuriated manner as he retreated down the court.
Even though the “unsuitable action” was exceedingly short-lived and bore no influence on the match’s outcome, such behavior invariably incurs a penalty from the association.
Sexton concluded the evening’s play accumulating 21 points and grabbing five rebounds, having converted 6 out of 8 attempts from the charity stripe. The player, aged 27, has maintained averages of 14.4 points and 3.7 assists this season, his eighth professional year, with a field goal percentage exceeding 48%.
Monday marked only Sexton’s second appearance for the Bulls. His transfer occurred prior to the trade deadline last week, as part of an exchange that saw Coby White move to the Charlotte Hornets.
The Bulls have recently experienced a losing streak of five consecutive games and have been defeated in eight of their most recent nine matchups. Their upcoming game on Wednesday versus the Boston Celtics, which precedes the All-Star hiatus, will see them holding a season record of 24 wins and 30 losses. Despite potential opportunities for a comeback, it appears highly probable that Sexton and the Bulls will not qualify for the postseason for the fourth consecutive year.
