Timberwolves stun Rockets with NBA-record 13-point overtime comeback

The Minnesota Timberwolves achieved perhaps their most significant victory of the current season.

On Wednesday, the Wolves orchestrated an astonishing resurgence, overcoming a 13-point disadvantage during overtime to defeat the Houston Rockets despite having a reduced roster. Houston initially secured all 13 points in the extra period, only for Minnesota to then amass 15 consecutive points, thrilling the vibrant audience at Target Center.

According to Jace Frederick from the Pioneer Press, this marks the first instance in the NBA’s play-by-play statistical era (commencing 1996-97) where a team has successfully recovered from a 13-point deficit in overtime.

Houston began the overtime period by scoring on its initial six possessions, establishing a 108-95 lead with 3 minutes and 1 second left, before the Timberwolves responded by scoring on their subsequent six possessions. Julius Randle sealed the victory with a fadeaway shot.
