Queen’s Women’s Prize Money Up 35%

The baseline monetary awards are established by the ATP and WTA Tours themselves, and for an extended period, significant disparities have existed in the earnings potential of equivalent, independent men’s and women’s competitions.

The WTA indicates that major joint tournaments are expected to offer identical prize funds by 2027. Individual competitions, such as the Queen’s week by definition, are given until 2033 to meet this criterion.

The female players’ tournament held in Charleston, contested on green clay during early April, distributed a total of $2.5 million in prize money. This amount corresponded to the minimum payout mandated for an ATP 500 competition.

The Charleston competition is under the proprietorship of American billionaire Ben Navarro, who is the parent of Emma, a semi-finalist at the 2024 US Open.

The LTA reports that more than 90% of the admissions for the women’s tournament at Queen’s, scheduled to start on June 8, have already been purchased.

Tatjana Maria claimed victory in the previous year’s event, marking Queen’s inaugural hosting of a women’s tour competition since 1973.

Concurrently, the monetary awards for female participants at the WTA 250 event in Eastbourne, held seven days prior to Wimbledon, are set to increase by 28%, reaching a total of $499,000 (£373,000).
