With a 4-3 victory over the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park on Sunday afternoon, Wilson and the Athletics secured their initial series triumph since the middle of June. During the game, Wilson maintained a clean sheet with zero errors, marking his 111th straight matchup without a misplay. This achievement established a novel Major League Baseball milestone for players at the shortstop position.
The prior benchmark of 110 error-free games was established in 2002 by Mike Bordick, who played shortstop for the Baltimore Orioles. Wilson has not recorded an error since July 6, 2025. Throughout Sunday’s triumph, he successfully executed five defensive opportunities, including a remarkable catch made after bumping into teammate Jeff McNeil as the two pursued the baseball.
For context, the overall Major League Baseball record for any position player belongs to Robbie Grossman, who logged 440 consecutive games without committing an error before his run concluded in 2022.
“This was a momentous occasion for me personally, but most importantly, we finally clinched a series victory against a tough rival after a long drought,” Wilson remarked, according to MLB.com. “Our focus now is to maintain this positive momentum.”
Currently playing in his third Major League campaign, the 24-year-old is batting .270 with seven home runs and 36 runs batted in. He earned his debut All-Star selection during the previous season.
A late-game surge propelled the Athletics to victory on Sunday, highlighted by a clutch run-scoring double from Max Muncy in the final frame. Earlier in the eighth inning, Jonah Heim had leveled the score with a run-scoring double of his own.
