It seems Dillon Danis’ journey with the Real American Freestyle organization is far from over.
During their wrestling encounter at RAF 10, things quickly spiraled out of control between Danis and ex-UFC middleweight champion Khamzat Chimaev. When Danis kicked up from his back toward Chimaev, “Borz” responded with a kick to his leg, triggering a chaotic melee between their respective camps.
The fighter known as “El Jefe” has built a notoriety for instigating altercations during and outside of his matches. While his most widely discussed clash occurred at the conclusion of his controversial boxing bout with Logan Paul, this recent skirmish with Chimaev’s team is certainly comparable.
Despite Danis’ reputation for volatile behavior in front of the cameras, RAF co-founder Chad Bronstein confirmed to MMAFighting that the ex-Bellator athlete has not been suspended or banned. Bronstein emphasized that behind the scenes, Danis has been highly cooperative and professional.
“Absolutely, Dillon Danis will return to the RAF stage,” remarked Bronstein. “There is no reason for us to suspend him since we managed to intervene. Speaking from my experience of working closely with him behind the scenes—alongside Izzy and the rest of our staff—he treats everyone in our promotion with great respect, even though we have had to address some specific issues with him.
“So I won’t announce any ban or claim he is excluded from future events, as I am confident he will make a return. When it comes to grappling and his overall involvement with us, his behavior has been exemplary within our group. Although the recent melee is obviously something we want to avoid—which he is fully aware of following our discussions—I anticipate we will see him compete for us once more down the line.”
Currently, Danis holds two defeats in the RAF promotion. These include his recent 10-0 shutout against Chimaev, as well as a 14-4 decision defeat to Colby Covington earlier this year in March.
The exact timeline for when the promotion plans to book Danis for his next appearance is still uncertain.
