Although Savage boasts 11 knockouts from his 11 wins, this matchup feels more like a feature exhibition for the 28-year-old Australian instead of the genuine test his professional journey requires.
Eddie Hearn has put a lot of effort into hyping Teremoana as a future ruler of the heavyweight division while voicing frustration over other Australian heavyweights avoiding him. However, a promoter’s hype can only generate so much interest on its own.
Following Tuesday’s face-to-face meeting, Teremoana had a chance to drum up excitement for Wednesday’s headlining fight, but he did not offer much in terms of promotional spark.
“To me, it’s just another competitor standing in my path,” Teremoana remarked. “We push ourselves twice a day, six days a week for this moment, and I am ready to translate all that hard work into action tomorrow evening.”
When questioned by Ben Damon about what fans should expect, Teremoana first answered, “You will see two heavyweights going at it in the main event,” before ultimately adding, “somebody is going to get knocked out.”
His quiet demeanor wouldn’t matter as much if the matchmaking itself generated the necessary excitement. In facing Savage, Teremoana is once more booked in a contest seemingly set up to display his punching power.
An early stoppage will keep his flawless knockout streak going. However, what Teremoana truly requires in the near future is a challenger who actually makes fans question whether his winning streak is in jeopardy.
