This coming Saturday in Philadelphia, Makhachev is scheduled to put his welterweight championship on the line against Ian Machado Garry in the headlining slot of UFC 330. It is a highly anticipated matchup, and a victory would allow Makhachev to surpass Anderson Silva’s historic mark of 16 straight wins by establishing a new UFC record of 17 consecutive triumphs.
As Makhachev stands on the verge of making UFC history, promotional CEO Dana White was asked to share his thoughts on the fighter’s standing in the GOAT debate, indicating that the champion is rapidly approaching that legendary status.
“I try not to focus on those things before the actual fight takes place,” White remarked following Tuesday’s DWCS event. “Let’s observe his performance on Saturday and see how everything unfolds. Clearly, to shatter that record, you just have to stay focused, continue to compete, keep putting in the work, and keep taking out every opponent in front of you. Once you eventually decide to call it a career, that is when we can evaluate your place in the grand scheme of things. He is absolutely heading in the right direction.”

Even so, White prefers to hold off on those comparisons until the weekend is over, wanting to first witness the clash between Makhachev and Garry at UFC 330.
“He possesses all the necessary qualities to be considered the absolute best,” White explained. “We should probably revisit this discussion on Saturday night once the event is over, evaluating his standing based on how he performs and whether he secures that historic record.”
Boasting an impressive 28-1 professional record, Islam Makhachev heads into UFC 330 fresh off a successful welterweight title defense via a decision victory against Jack Della Maddalena. Prior to that matchup, he successfully defended his lightweight crown against Renato Moicano.
