It looks like plans to witness Aaron Donald and Myles Garrett sharing the field in Week 1 have fallen through.
Donald is set to miss the trip to Australia with the Rams, having been officially sidelined for Thursday’s opening game of the season against the San Francisco 49ers.
This comes as a massive stroke of luck for Brock Purdy and the rest of the San Francisco offense.
Having recently ended a two-year retirement, Donald has only taken part in a single full 11-on-11 practice session since his comeback. It seems the Rams are hesitant to push the 35-year-old defender too quickly just to have him active for the Melbourne game.
Even so, Los Angeles will feature the current Defensive Player of the Year, Myles Garrett, putting pressure on Purdy, meaning this defensive line remains highly formidable.
Nonetheless, the prospect of Garrett charging from the edge while Donald collapsed the pocket from the middle was undoubtedly the most frightening aspect of this contest.
Fortunately for the 49ers, they are spared from facing that terrifying scenario on Thursday night.
As a result, fans will have to wait a bit longer to see the most intimidating defensive line partnership in the league finally unite on the gridiron.
