Patriots’ A.J. Brown Injures Ankle in Seahawks Loss

The highly awaited New England debut of A.J. Brown was abruptly cut short during the opening minutes of the third quarter, as the star wideout sustained an ankle injury while attempting to scoop up a low pass from Drake Maye. Though initially deemed questionable to get back on the field, Brown was subsequently ruled out for the remainder of the contest.

As the replay demonstrates, the receiver’s ankle twisted at an unnatural angle when it got caught beneath the turf and Seattle cornerback Nehemiah Pritchett.

The severity of the issue and his timeline for recovery remain undetermined at this moment. 

“There is no current update,” head coach Mike Vrabel remarked after the game. “Clearly, he was prevented from returning.”

Prior to his exit, Brown had secured three receptions totaling 26 yards—a quiet output on paper that fails to tell the whole story of his contribution. Notably, he also forced a 34-yard pass interference call downfield on a flea-flicker attempt when Drake Maye underthrew the ball.

Throughout the offseason, speculation frequently linked the Patriots to Brown as a potential trade destination from Philadelphia, though salary cap constraints delayed the finalized transaction until June 1. In exchange, New England sent a 2028 first-round selection to the Eagles. Acquiring Brown was a central piece of New England’s aggressive strategy to bolster the supporting cast around Maye; the front office also secured Alijah Vera-Tucker and Romeo Doubs through free agency, while selecting Caleb Lomu to reinforce their depth at tackle. Later in the game, Doubs suffered a critical dropped pass during the final quarter.
