Klugman Wins Wrexham Open

Delivering a standout display in the Lexus Wrexham Open final against Elsa Jacquemot, British teen Hannah Klugman secured the most significant championship of her career.

The seventeen-year-old triumphantly claimed the W100 crown with a straight-set victory over her French rival, finishing 6-2 6-4 without dropping a single set throughout the tournament.

Following in the footsteps of Welsh player Mimi Xu’s victory last year, she is the second consecutive Brit to capture the Wrexham championship, while also establishing herself as the youngest British competitor to earn a singles title at W100 tier or above.

Right from the opening game, Klugman put pressure on her opponent, ranked 157th globally. Although she squandered her initial pair of break point chances, her efforts paid off merely two games afterward.

Securing a double break allowed the British player to comfortably claim the opening set, after which she maintained her momentum into the second set to quickly build a 5-1 advantage.

Facing the most crucial contest of her journey to date, Klugman was forced to dig deep to secure the win. Jacquemot narrowed the gap to 5-4, but the local favorite successfully served out the match on her second attempt.

“My hands were trembling when it finished, yet I feel incredibly happy and truly proud of what I achieved once more,” Klugman expressed.

“This entire week has been wonderful, and finishing it with a victory in a tournament of this caliber represents a major milestone in my development as an emerging player.”

The host nation enjoyed further glory when Eden Silva and Freya Christie triumphed in the doubles final, overcoming Hiroko Kuwata of Japan and Ankita Raina of India with a 6-2 6-3 scoreline.
