TGL 2027 Schedule: Woods, McIlroy, and Koepka Set for Opening Night

Broadly resembling its initial two campaigns, the upcoming third year of the virtual golf league founded by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy returns with subtle tweaks. With a calendar spanning 14 head-to-head showdowns, each franchise is slated to play four regular-season contests leading into the March playoffs.

Opening-day action on Dec. 27 begins with Rory McIlroy’s Boston Common Golf, a group that recently grabbed headlines after acquiring Shane Lowry. Boston Common faces off against Motor City Golf Club, led by Brooks Koepka, marking the league’s very first expansion club. Joining the five-time major winner are rising star Jackson Koivun along with dynamic golfers Bud Cauley, Jake Knapp, and Si Woo Kim.

Matchplay on opening afternoon continues with a marquee matchup featuring Tiger Woods’ Jupiter Links Golf Club battling the reigning titleholders, Los Angeles Golf Club. Although Woods’ on-course participation will be confirmed nearer to tee time, both league creators plan to be present to mark the launch of Season 3.

Owing to the franchise expansion and expanded five-man rosters—up from four, with three golfers competing per match—the strain on individual participants in TGL will be significantly lighter than in past years.

Take McIlroy’s Boston Common as an instance: following their Dec. 27 debut, they do not return to action until Jan. 12. Their remaining regular-season fixtures fall on Jan. 31 and Feb. 23, providing substantial rest between appearances.

Playoff competition is slated to run from March 1 through March 23, with specific match times still to be finalized. Review the full slate of regular-season fixtures below as high-tech golf action prepares to return to the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

TGL match format

Every TGL contest spans 15 holes divided into two distinct halves. Golfers execute full shots from real grass, bunker, or rough surfaces toward a massive screen simulator. Conversely, short-game plays under 50 yards along with putting occur on an adaptable, rotating green facility within the SoFi Center.

Holes 1–9 — Triples (3-on-3 alternate shot): A trio from each club competes in an alternate-shot setup, with players taking turns sequentially. The set rotation proceeds in order until each hole concludes.

Holes 10–15 — Singles (one-on-one competition): Individual players compete head-to-head over single holes. Each team member plays one hole individually before repeating the sequence for holes 13 through 15.

Overtime: A 3-vs-3 closest-to-the-pin tiebreaker

Scoring: Winning a hole earns one point, halved holes yield zero points, and points do not carry forward.

The Hammer: Standard holes are valued at one point unless a squad activates the “hammer”—a weighted yellow flag that doubles the hole’s worth. The opposing side must either accept to compete for two points or reject it and forfeit the hole. Clubs possess three hammer uses per fixture.

Shot clock: Competitors receive 40 seconds per stroke, with delays incurring a one-shot penalty.

Timeouts: Teams are granted four timeouts per contest—split equally as two during Triples and two during Singles—without carryover options.
