Gen.G wrapped up a flawless 3-0 performance in the Swiss Stage at Worlds 2026 on Sunday, overcoming an initial deficit to clinch victory over LYON with a score of 2-1. The champions of LCK have secured a position in the quarter-finals, while LYON will need to fight for advancement in Round 4.
The best-of-three contest commenced at 20:55 on Sunday, 25 October 2026.
Earlier that very evening, on day three of the Swiss Stage, Dplus KIA dominated Movistar KOI with a clean sweep of 2-0, where Smash achieved the tournament’s first pentakill during the opening game of that matchup.
The Swiss Stage consists of five rounds. Teams that achieve three victories progress to the Knockout Stage, while three losses result in elimination. Gen.G’s journey started with wins of 1-0 against both Invictus Gaming and Hanwha Life Esports.
LYON seized the first match with two Barons
LYON dominated the opening game, securing Baron right after it appeared at the 20-minute mark without any casualties. A subsequent Baron followed a five-on-five confrontation, propelling LYON towards the Nexus. Dot Esports highlighted jungler Inspired and bot laner Berserker, who played Kalista, as the standout players for LYON. Conversely, Canyon’s Qiyana struggled to land his ultimates effectively.
Gen.G responded with determination. A decisive top-lane teamfight at the 23-minute mark helped them secure Baron and also the Dragon Soul, equalizing the series. In the final game, Gen.G lost Galio early during a team altercation. Kiin joined on Camille through Teleport, leading Gen.G to break the mid inhibitor, capture three dragons, and ultimately triumph in the decisive fight.
Statistically, the difference between the two teams was significant. Gen.G stood fourth in the Elo power rankings, boasting a score of 1868 along with a 118-30 game record. In contrast, LYON was positioned 28th with a rating of 1720 and a record of 34-28.
LYON stays in contention while G2 confronts elimination
This loss marked LYON’s first defeat at this competition. They had previously earned victories of 1-0 against Team Secret Whales and Karmine Corp, and they enter Round 4 with a record of 2-1. A subsequent win would enable them to reach the Knockout Stage.
In the current season, LYON has already claimed a notable victory against G2 Esports, defeating them 3-0 and eliminating them from MSI 2026 on 10 July 2026, during which Inspired was named the MVP. Meanwhile, Allen, representing the LEC, was defeated 1-0 by Top Esports in Round 3.
In other action during Round 3, Invictus Gaming triumphed over Hanwha Life Esports with a 1-0 victory. Both teams had fallen to Gen.G earlier in the Swiss Stage.
The Swiss Round 4 is set to take place from 28 to 30 October at the Credit Union of Texas Event Center in Allen, Texas, followed by Round 5 on 31 October. The quarter-finals are scheduled for November 3 to 6 at the same location.
