Luka Dončić’s recent technical foul has been revoked.
The league annulled a technical foul that the Los Angeles Lakers star received during LA’s 138-117 victory against the Miami Heat on Monday night. The foul, which Dončić obtained in the second quarter at Crypto.com Arena, was evaluated by the league on Tuesday.
This decision has left Dončić with just one technical foul in the last eight games this season.
The occurrence on Monday unfolded after Dončić expressed his dissatisfaction with a decision made by an official, resulting in a frank exchange between Dončić and the referees that was captured on the broadcast.
“I clapped. That’s a technical? Come on now,” Dončić remarked to the official. “If it was anybody else, you know it’s not a technical. Come on now.”
Klay Thompson successfully converted the free throw following the technical, narrowing the Heat’s deficit to five points at that moment.
When asked about the technical foul after the game, Dončić opted not to elaborate.
In the winning effort, Dončić recorded 42 points, 13 assists, and 7 rebounds. He has been averaging 43.4 points per game across his last five games, which includes an impressive 52-point performance against the Utah Jazz on October 25.
The Lakers currently stand at 6-2 this season.
Dončić has faced challenges concerning technical fouls in the past. He received a one-game suspension last season after reaching the threshold of 16 technical fouls, which results in an automatic suspension of one game. He recorded 15 technical fouls for three consecutive seasons, accumulating 13 during the 2024-25 season.
This season, two players in the league have already amassed three technical fouls. One of them is Golden State standout Draymond Green, who was ejected on Monday night due to an incident in the Warriors’ victory over the Phoenix Suns. Houston’s Jabari Smith Jr. is also among those with three.
Although it’s still quite early in the regular season, Dončić has significant time ahead before needing to be concerned about encountering this type of penalty again. Nevertheless, having the technical foul rescinded on Monday surely provides him with more leeway as the season progresses.
