Elversberg brought 8,000 supporters to the Signal Iduna Park for their Bundesliga match against Borussia Dortmund. Despite experiencing a 2-1 loss, which marked their fourth defeat in the 2026/27 season, the memories created will remain for generations among Elversberg’s traveling fans.
What adds to the significance of this figure is that it represents a club record for Elversberg, a team that had not played above Germany’s 3. Liga until 2023. Furthermore, the 8,000 fans represent 61 percent of the town’s total population—it’s genuinely that small!
Speaking before Elversberg’s match, head coach Vincent Wagner remarked: “Hooray, the whole community is here.”
Even after falling behind 2-0 due to a second-half brace from Felix Nmecha, Noel Futkeu’s stunning bicycle kick in the 81st minute nearly sparked a revival.
The loss at the Signal Iduna Park leaves the Saarland club with 13 points out of a possible 27 after nine games, an admirable achievement for a team that was competing in Germany’s fourth tier just a year ago.
