Abdul Carter’s tenure with the New York Giants has been relatively short, spanning just a few months. However, he’s already immersing himself in the intense rivalry between the Giants and the New York Jets. A video clip showing the former Penn State standout and No. 3 overall draft pick being knocked off balance by a chip block from Jets tight end Stone Smartt circulated widely on social media on Saturday night, prompting a response from him on Sunday:

Here’s the block being referenced:

As Carter pointed out, the Giants achieved a convincing victory over the Jets on Saturday. Jaxson Dart, another first-round pick for the Giants, again exhibited impressive performance as the Big Blue squad triumphed over Gang Green with a score of 31-13. Carter was officially credited with one assisted tackle during the game, collaborating with Brian Burns to halt Breece Hall’s progress, resulting in no gain.

In the initial stages of his professional journey, Carter has largely lived up to expectations. He contributed to limiting the Jets’ starting offense to a punt and a field goal across two possessions. Justin Fields managed to complete only one of five pass attempts for a mere four yards. Carter also remained on the field after the Jets’ starters were substituted, coming close to reaching backup quarterback Adrian Martinez. During the Giants’ preseason Week 1 victory against the Buffalo Bills, Carter frequently penetrated the backfield.

Carter is anticipated to play a pivotal role in a formidable pass rush, alongside figures like 2024 Pro Bowler Dexter Lawrence II and edge rushers Brian Burns and Kayvon Thibodeaux.

Carter is scheduled to make his official NFL debut — with the hope of avoiding being on the receiving end of any further widely shared highlights — on Sept. 7 against the Washington Commanders.
