Alcaraz Defeats De Minaur, Starts ATP Finals Strong

Having secured a win against Alex de Minaur, Carlos Alcaraz expressed his “motivated” mindset as he participates in the ATP Finals, also getting closer to securing the year-end world number one position.

The Spanish athlete, aged 22, initiated his group stage journey with a victory of 7-6 (7-5) 6-2 in a match lasting one hour and 40 minutes, held in Turin, Italy.

This marks Alcaraz’s third venture into the season-culminating tournament; however, he is yet to advance to the final round.

Due to an injury, he had to withdraw in 2022; in his initial appearance the year prior, he was defeated in the semi-finals, and last year, he was unsuccessful in advancing from the group stage.

Alcaraz is vying for the top ranking against Jannik Sinner; Sinner recently reclaimed the leading spot following his triumph at the Paris Masters the previous week.

“In the last three years, I’ve found it challenging to maintain energy and drive towards the year’s end. This year feels somewhat different,” Alcaraz commented.

“I’m genuinely pleased with how I’ve managed things to arrive here feeling motivated.

“I’m very enthusiastic and eager to showcase excellent tennis, providing myself the opportunity to contend for the tournament victory.”
