Alcaraz Wins Tokyo, Withdraws from Shanghai

Simultaneously, Sinner advanced to the championship match of the China Open in Beijing, securing a 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 triumph over Alex de Minaur.

Sinner is aiming to capture his second championship at this competition, having previously won in 2023. He was defeated by Alcaraz in the previous year’s final.

Learner Tien will be his adversary in Wednesday’s final, after Daniil Medvedev was forced to withdraw during the third set of their semi-final encounter.

This marks the inaugural occasion the 19-year-old American has attained the final of an ATP Tour tournament.

Medvedev, from Russia, prevailed in the initial set with a score of 7-5, but this score was mirrored as Tien mounted a comeback in the second set.

Medvedev, who was sanctioned with a $42,500 penalty for his conduct at the US Open, encountered difficulties with cramps in the third set and became embroiled in a contentious exchange with the umpire, following a warning for not exerting his utmost effort.

“I am giving my best, I am telling you that,” Medvedev communicated to the supervisor.

“Who do you think you are to judge? Why is every official in the world attempting to intimidate me? Following the US Open, I am trying to be respectful. This person is doing this and I am supposed to be courteous?”

Tien, positioned at world number 52, was ahead 4-0 in the deciding set when Medvedev decided to retire from the match.
