Alcaraz Wins US Open, Defeating Sinner in Thrilling Match

Carlos Alcaraz emerged victorious in the newest installment of his captivating head-to-head with Jannik Sinner, securing a four-set triumph to recapture the US Open crown.

The Spaniard, Alcaraz, began impressively and withstood a second-set comeback attempt from the Italian, Sinner, before surging to a 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 result in New York.

The men’s championship match experienced a thirty-minute delay due to heightened security protocols implemented in light of former US president Donald Trump’s attendance.

Once it commenced, the duo presented another gripping encounter – though it lacked some of the intensity and excellence of their French Open and Wimbledon championship meetings from earlier this year.

Alcaraz, the current French Open title holder, benefited from his improved serving, an aspect that had faltered against Sinner at the All England Club, ensuring his return to the US Open winner’s circle, a feat he first accomplished in 2022.

The 22-year-old now boasts six Grand Slam titles, placing him as the second-youngest male, trailing only Bjorn Borg, to attain this milestone.

Alcaraz’s success guarantees a balanced outcome between him and Sinner – who claimed the Australian Open and Wimbledon – at the four majors in 2025.

Following his fifth final showdown of the season against Sinner, Alcaraz remarked: “I see you more frequently than my own family. It’s a privilege to share the court with you.”

Alcaraz has also taken the world number one ranking from Sinner, who had maintained that position for 65 weeks.

Sinner, who appeared below par for much of the contest, managed to stave off two championship-point opportunities before Alcaraz regrouped and seized his third chance.

Delivering a 131mph ace wide served as a fitting conclusion for Alcaraz, given his exceptional serving performance throughout the fortnight, before flashing his familiar smile and celebrating with his now signature golf-swing motion.
