The Boston Red Sox’s skipper, Alex Cora, took advantage of the recent MLB All-Star Break to return home and indulge in his love for music. Unbeknownst to him, the chosen musical event would soon become the source of an internet sensation.
Indeed, Cora, accompanied by his close companions, was present at Gillette Stadium on Wednesday evening for the now-famous Coldplay performance. During the concert, Astronomer’s Chief Executive Officer, Andy Byron, and Head of Human Resources, Kristin Cabot, were captured on camera in an intimate moment, prompting lead vocalist Chris Martin to humorously remark, “Either they’re having an affair or they’re just very shy.”
The response of Byron and Cabot to this public display triggered a viral explosion, fueling speculation regarding the nature of their relationship.
On Friday, prior to the Red Sox’s resumption of the season against the Chicago Cubs, Cora disclosed his presence at Gillette Stadium on Wednesday.
“It was enjoyable,” Cora commented with a chuckle. “I actually attended the Wednesday [Coldplay] concert. It was quite entertaining.”
Cora had previously mentioned to WEEI the prior week that he had coordinated plans with friends to attend the concert, having initially viewed a Coldplay performance on YouTube back in December.
In response to the unfavorable attention, Astronomer issued a statement on Friday afternoon, emphasizing that the company’s executives are “expected to uphold the highest standards of conduct and accountability” and that the board of directors has initiated an investigation into the matter.
The Red Sox commenced their series against the Cubs with a 4-1 loss on Friday. Following their time in Chicago, they will journey to Philadelphia for a series of three games. Upon concluding their engagements with the Phillies, they will return to Boston the following weekend to face the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Presently holding a record of 53-45, the Red Sox are positioned three games behind the Toronto Blue Jays in the AL East standings. They aspire to instill fear in their opponents and break a three-year playoff absence with a compelling second half.
After all, the journey to the postseason is never without its challenges.
