The comprehensive plan for the sixth season of the competitive Apex Legends circuit, known as the Apex Legends Global Series (ALGS), has been unveiled.
For its sixth year, ALGS will host three offline tournaments globally and offer a total prize pool of $7 million (approximately £5.2 million) over the course of the season.
The Updated ALGS Plan
The sixth installment of ALGS will commence with a series of online open qualifiers, termed the ALGS Online Open, spanning four weekends. These events will occur in February and March, with victors from each regional qualification round earning an immediate berth in Pro League Split 1, set to begin on April 4th.
From July 7th to 11th, the Split 1 Playoffs are scheduled to occur within the Esports World Cup event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. International teams will vie for a $2 million (around £1.4 million) prize fund and crucial Championship Points, which are essential for securing a spot in the culminating ALGS Championship tournament.
The Split 2 Playoffs are set for the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, from October 29th to November 1st, where another $2 million will be contested, offering teams their final opportunity to accumulate Championship Points. For Year 6, the last-chance qualifier is back, providing both Challenger Circuit and Pro League squads a concluding opportunity to reach the ALGS Championship, which will be hosted in Sapporo, Japan, for the third year in a row.
Monica Dinsmore, EA’s Head of Esports, stated, “This strategic plan unmistakably demonstrates our commitment to the enduring success of the ALGS. Through broadening the competitive landscape, elevating prize pools, and establishing a presence in important global territories, we are fostering an environment that strengthens the bond between participants and enthusiasts.”
Updated ALGS Roster Regulations
In conjunction with announcing the prize funds and venues, ALGS plans to implement a player transfer period, intended to enhance consistency for both supporters and participating esports organizations.
Each split will incorporate one such window, which will become active following Match Day 6. The ALGS indicates that this initiative is designed to ‘encourage enhanced team composition consistency and offer fans more distinct and stable team recognition.’
Beyond the transfer period, ALGS has also instituted a mandatory match participation threshold for players to qualify for Championship Points. Individual players need to participate in 12 Pro League games for their accrued points to contribute to a team’s overall score.
Apart from the Pro League, the Challenger Circuit is being reinstated to give hopeful players an opportunity to ascend to the premier level of Apex Legends competitive play. Champions of the online Split 1 events will secure an automatic berth in the Pro League Qualifier for Split 2. Following the conclusion of Split 1 Pro League, the leading Challenger Circuit teams will face off against the lowest-ranking eight Pro League teams in the Pro League Qualifier.
