With about six minutes remaining in the initial quarter, Detroit Lions receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown hobbled off the playing surface and headed toward the locker room due to an ankle ailment. Thankfully, the situation could have been significantly more severe.
According to information provided by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, an MRI scan confirmed that St. Brown sustained a mild ankle sprain while participating in a run-blocking assignment against the visiting Green Bay Packers. He will not be required to be placed on the injured reserve list and is anticipated to be sidelined for approximately one to two weeks, as indicated by Lions head coach Dan Campbell on Thursday.
With his status now essentially evaluated on a weekly basis, St. Brown will have an opportunity to recuperate, as the Lions are scheduled to play only once — on December 4 against the Dallas Cowboys — during the subsequent 16-day period.
The injury took place during the team’s second offensive series of the day in a 31-24 defeat against the Packers. Following a three-and-out on their opening drive, the Lions returned to the field with 6:32 left in the first quarter. On the initial play of the second drive, the Lions attempted to run Jahmyr Gibbs towards the right side.
St. Brown was assigned as a blocker on the play and attempted to impede Packers safety Xavier McKinney from disrupting the play. As they were engaged, a Lions offensive lineman inadvertently rolled into St. Brown’s legs. After remaining on the ground momentarily, St. Brown limped off the field and proceeded directly to the locker room.
The Lions initially listed him as questionable to return. However, shortly after the commencement of the second half, St. Brown was officially declared out for the remainder of the game. He recorded one target, but did not secure any receptions, during the game.
Absent St. Brown, the Lions were compelled to identify alternative dependable pass-catching options. For the most part, Jameson Williams elevated his performance, securing seven receptions for 144 yards and one touchdown. Despite his efforts, the Lions were unable to complete the comeback against the Packers, ultimately losing by a score of 31-24.
The defeat resulted in the Lions’ record dropping to 7-5 for the season. While the team remains firmly in contention for a playoff berth, the loss could potentially hinder their chances of securing the division title. The Packers possess the advantage in the head-to-head series this season, having defeated the Lions twice in 2025.
