Manager Ruben Amorim, under scrutiny, is anticipated to have Amad Diallo back on the team roster after his recent absence.
Manchester United stated on Wednesday that Amad, alongside Tyrell Malacia, had rejoined the squad for practice.
Amad was absent for United’s defeat to Brentford due to a family loss, but he has been a starter in five games this season as Amorim aims to improve upon the Red Devils’ subpar performance in the 2024-25 season.
Amad returns to Man United training
“Someone within his family has passed, so we are extending all possible support to Amad,” Amorim conveyed to the club’s media personnel prior to the Brentford match.
“We understood it was vital for him to have his time. We are available for him.”
Reportedly, Amad stayed with his family within England instead of going back to Ivory Coast, and he participated completely in Wednesday’s first-team training session.
United’s subsequent game will be in the Premier League against Sunderland, the team Amad played for in the Championship during the 2022-23 season, marking a significant period in his development with 14 goals across all competitions.
After returning to Old Trafford, the former Atalanta player has endured a couple of extended periods away from the team due to injuries over the past two seasons under the guidance of Erik ten Hag and Amorim.
When available, the 23-year-old has been one of United’s more dependable and captivating players and may participate in the upcoming game against his former loan team on Saturday.
Amad has been in the starting eleven for four of United’s six Premier League matches thus far this season, despite increased competition for positions.
Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo both became United players during the summer to support Benjamin Sesko within Amorim’s notably consistent system, but Amad has been one of the two players ahead of Cunha and also holds the advantage of playing on the right side of a four-man midfield.
Amorim will be eager to include the Ivorian in his starting XI. Amad hasn’t scored this season, but he scored eight Premier League goals in 20 starts in 2024-25, acting as a bright spot during a predominantly dismal season.
He joined United from Atalanta in 2021, having participated in only five first-team matches for the Bergamo club.
Prior to his notable performance at Sunderland in the Championship, he scored three goals in 10 league matches while on loan at Rangers during the latter half of 2021-22.
Amad, a full international for Ivory Coast, ranked 25th in FourFourTwo‘s list of the season’s best Premier League players, and he could potentially compete against Sunderland for the first time on Saturday when Premier League games resume.
