Alek Manoah, a right-handed pitcher, has reached an agreement with the Los Angeles Angels on a one-year contract, the team officially stated on Tuesday.
Manoah, at 27 years of age, was released by the Miami Marlins last month and has now signed with the Angels on a major league deal that guarantees him $1.95 million, according to a report from ESPN’s Jeff Passan.
Once a prominent Cy Young award candidate with the Toronto Blue Jays, Monoah’s performance declined after a strong 2022 season where he posted a 16-7 record with a 2.24 ERA. Following a 1-7 start to 2023 with a 6.36 ERA, he was sent down to the rookie league.
After being called back up to the Jays’ major league team in July, Manoah recorded a 2-2 record with a 4.91 ERA over seven starts, before being sent back down to Triple-A in August of the same year, after which he did not pitch at any level again.
During the 2024 season, Manoah made five starts, pitching 24⅓ innings, with a 1-2 record and a 3.70 ERA before his season was cut short due to elbow surgery. The Blue Jays released Manoah shortly before the playoffs after he spent time rehabbing with Triple-A Buffalo during the season.
While playing for the Bisons, Manoah had a 1-1 record with a 2.97 ERA in seven starts, giving up six home runs out of the 27 hits he allowed.
