Word on the street is that Michail Antonio is putting in the work at a new training facility, seeking to impress and earn a spot on a team’s roster.
At 35 years of age, Antonio concluded his time with West Ham United this past summer, a departure spurred by a significant leg injury sustained in a traffic incident.
Although West Ham provided support during his rehabilitation, recent buzz indicates that the striker is actively pursuing peak physical condition and has started practicing with a fellow Premier League contender.
Michail Antonio reportedly training with new Premier League club
This season, Antonio has made a couple of appearances for West Ham’s Under-21 squad, participating in matches against Nottingham Forest and Manchester City.
Sources at FourFourTwo suggest the seasoned player is keen on staying within the London area, primarily due to family matters.
Parallel to his commitments as a sports analyst, information circulating on X (previously known as Twitter) suggests that Antonio is currently training with Brentford, with the hopes of securing a brief contract with Keith Andrews’ team.
This past summer, The Bees experienced the loss of strikers Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa; however, they’ve since integrated Igor Thiago, who has naturally filled the starting striker role at the Gtech Community Stadium.
When questioned in August about his desire to continue his playing career, Antonio expressed, “I am driven to prove that I can make a comeback and perform at a high level, something I’ve consistently demonstrated over the past decade.”
“Even prior to the automobile accident, I was a starting player for West Ham, highlighting my ongoing ability and potential to achieve it once more.”
FourFourTwo believes that Brentford’s immediate priority is to maintain their status as a Premier League club this season, and having someone with Antonio’s wealth of experience could prove advantageous.
Whether or not the forward will be offered a contract remains uncertain, with Mirror Sport implying that Andrews and his team have no plans to extend one.
