The Gunners are hoping to strengthen their team as their campaign for the Premier League title progresses, and they’ve reportedly received the ‘go-ahead’ to pursue the acquisition of a player touted as the next Thierry Henry.
Following eleven matches, Arsenal currently holds a four-point advantage atop the Premier League standings and are aiming to further solidify their squad during the January transfer window.
Price Revealed for Arsenal’s Forward Target
Arsenal once again made significant investments during the summer transfer window, securing seven permanent signings, in addition to finalising the transfer of Piero Hincapie, who is currently on loan with an obligation to buy.
A significant part of their transfer activity involved reinforcing their squad depth to avoid a repeat of the challenges they faced in the previous season.
Currently, they are considering making an immediate addition to their squad, with AC Milan’s Rafael Leao as their primary target.
According to reports from CaughtOffside, Leao has become increasingly concerned by AC Milan’s recent difficulties in consistently challenging for major trophies. The 26-year-old Portuguese international might consider seeking opportunities elsewhere to pursue silverware.
While Leao’s contract includes a €150 million release clause, it is suggested that Milan might be willing to accept an offer in the range of €80-85 million. Arsenal are reportedly preparing to make a serious bid in January.
FourFourTwo has learned that Manchester City, PSG, and Chelsea are all closely monitoring his situation. However, Arsenal may be prepared to intensify their interest during the January transfer window.
Milan remains hopeful of retaining Leao, but any offers near their valuation would likely test their resolve. If he doesn’t agree to a contract extension, it could become increasingly challenging for them to keep hold of their key attacking player.
Leao has drawn comparisons to Arsenal legend Thierry Henry, who holds the top spot in FourFourTwo‘s ranking of the greatest Premier League players of all time. The Portuguese player’s elegant dribbling, physical presence, and ability to cut in from the left wing have contributed to these comparisons.
During the summer, he ignited excitement among Arsenal fans when he posted a photo of himself wearing a t-shirt featuring a graphic of Henry. While a transfer didn’t happen then, it may once again generate excitement among Arsenal supporters.
Leao has been in fine form this season, contributing five goals and one assist across all competitions. While he primarily operates as a winger, he has also been deployed as a striker or second striker this season, playing in the space behind to maximize his dribbling skills and passing vision.
From FourFourTwo‘s perspective, securing Leao would be an excellent move for Arsenal, provided the funds are available. With no clear first-choice player between Martinelli and Leandro Trossard, and the Belgian international perhaps having a slight edge this season, Leao would represent a significant upgrade over both.
Transfermarkt values Leao at €70 million. Arsenal’s next match is the north London derby against Tottenham in the Premier League, scheduled after the international break.
