A player on loan from Arsenal has confessed that he only became aware of his departure during the summer after spotting a tweet from Fabrizio Romano.
Mikel Arteta gave the green light to a series of departures towards the end of the transfer window to free up squad space, with the acquisition of Bayer Leverkusen’s defender, Piero Hincapie, marking the culmination of the Gunners’ active period.
However, after preparing for team practice just hours prior, the player in question has now unveiled that he discovered his exit through social media, specifically via the renowned Italian journalist.
Arsenal player learnt of his exit from the club via tweet from Fabrizio Romano
Frequently recognized, whether praised or joked about, for his signature phrase ‘Here We Go’, it’s undeniable that Romano has reshaped the landscape of football transfers over the recent years.
Agents, athletes, and Romano himself are privy to highly confidential information, yet one Arsenal player might have favored receiving news of his transfer in a more discreet and formal manner.
According to statements reported by O Jogo in Portugal, Arsenal’s player, Jakub Kiwior, only found out about his loan move to FC Porto once his friends and family shared Romano’s tweet from X.
It’s suggested that the defender was getting ready, as usual, for a Gunners practice when he was quickly diverted to Porto to finalize his temporary transfer.
“It was emotionally challenging to leave Arsenal, mainly because the timing was so unexpected,” he admitted. “Had I been informed of the precise departure date earlier, I would have had more time to mentally and emotionally prepare. In those final days, uncertainty loomed, and I was unsure which day would be my last.
“When Fabrizio Romano posted ‘here we go’, my phone was flooded with messages and calls of congratulations. I was about to begin practice… My teammates noticed the announcement on their phones and were puzzled as to why I was still in my training gear if the deal was already completed.
“I hesitated to say my goodbyes then, as I was awaiting official confirmation of the situation. The next day, with certainty, I returned to bid farewell.
“I went onto the field to express my gratitude and say farewell to my teammates and the coach. They organized a farewell line for me, which was deeply touching. Regrettably, I couldn’t personally bid farewell to everyone I wished to, and I still needed to make some calls.”
