Arsenal’s January Transfer Targets: Two Players in Sight

The Gunners are reportedly getting closer to securing the signatures of two promising young players from across Europe.

This follows a significant investment during the summer transfer window for the north London club, which saw the arrivals of Martin Zubimendi, Eberechi Eze, Viktor Gyokeres and Noni Madueke.

Each of those four acquisitions is understood to have cost in the region of £50m or more, but those at the top of the league table apparently feel there’s more to be done.

Football clubs are constantly in search of the next generation of stars, and, according to a recent report, two players plying their trade in Italy have piqued the interest of Arsenal.

One potential target could provide competition for Eze, while another young player being considered would give the likes of Myles Lewis-Skelly and Riccardo Calafiori something to think about.

According to reports in Tuttosport, the Gunners have been present at games to watch Juventus attacker Kenan Yildiz.

The 20-year-old has registered two goals and four assists across all competitions for the Italian club, and his current contract is set to run until 2029.

It is understood that the Juventus hierarchy are understandably keen to agree improved terms with the Turkey international, which would see his contract extended to 2030. Whilst negotiations seem to be progressing, this hasn’t reportedly deterred Arsenal.

Arteta’s team are also said to be monitoring 19-year-old left-back Davide Bartesaghi – who plays for Juventus’ opponents Milan – and who has recently forced his way into the club’s first-team squad.

It remains to be seen how Arsenal will proceed with this interest as, in FourFourTwo’s view, these are not priority positions that require immediate reinforcement at the Emirates Stadium.

Yildiz is capable of playing in the space behind the main striker, or in a wider attacking role, but he would face fierce competition for game time, with players such as Eze, Martin Odegaard, Madueke, Ethan Nwaneri, Gabriel Martinelli and even the up-and-coming youngster Max Dowman all vying for a place in the team.

Similarly for Bartesaghi, he’d have to compete with Calafiori and Lewis-Skelly, with the latter being of a similar age to the Italy youth international.

Clubs will always monitor potential transfer targets, but on the face of it, a move for either of these players doesn’t appear to make sense for Arsenal, or indeed for the players themselves.

Yildiz is currently valued at €50m, according to Transfermarkt, while Bartesaghi is said to be worth around €1.8m. Arsenal’s next game is against Fulham, when Premier League football resumes after the current international break.
