Jonas Gundersen, Chief Executive Officer of the Danish competitive gaming enterprise Astralis, has acknowledged a setback concerning its December compensation distribution, influencing both team members and their Counter-Strike 2 lineup.

Initially brought to light by the Danish broadsheet Ekstra Bladet, payments anticipated on December 1st were reportedly not fulfilled.

The report indicates that employees received notification of a delay of two weeks concerning December’s payments, attributed to ‘difficulties’ encountered by the new ownership following the acquisition by Fusion Esports Group in September 2025.

To make up for the deferred payments, Gundersen conveyed that all personnel affected will be given an additional ten percent upon the completion of salary processing.

“It is not ideal, but it pertains to our having taken stewardship of a company facing certain obstacles, which we were fully cognizant of from the outset,” Gundersen communicated in a statement to Ekstra Bladet. “This timing is truly unfortunate for the employees, particularly in mid-December.”

Gundersen also verified that the payment schedule disruption has touched the organization’s Counter-Strike 2 representatives, who are presently participating in the StarLadder Budapest Major 2025. For Astralis, this marks their initial participation at a Valve-endorsed competition in three years, having missed qualification since 2022.

Astralis’ Monetary and Performance-Related Issues

Prior to the takeover, Astralis released its financial accounting for 2024, disclosing a net loss of DKK 31.3m (~£3.6m) as a consequence of the team’s inadequate performance during tournaments and the resolution made by Valve to reconfigure the Counter-Strike esports environment in 2023.

The reformatting brought an end to franchised leagues, which had furnished esports organizations with a dependable revenue source as they took part in events staged by various tournament management entities.

Astralis currently seeks to qualify for Stage 3 of the Budapest Major, which would place the organization within five rounds of securing a potentially beneficial spot in the playoffs. The team is slated to compete against Team Liquid in a best-of-three showdown on December 2nd, wherein victory would propel the victor to the next level, and defeat would result in the loser’s departure.
