Atlético Madrid secured consecutive LaLiga victories, triumphing 3-0 against Mallorca.
Diego Simeone’s squad put on an assured performance, with Alexander Sorloth netting the opening goal during the first half, followed by a humorous own goal from David López and a powerful shot from Thiago Almada to seal the win.
This win extends Atlético’s undefeated streak in the league to five matches, whereas Mallorca continues to hover narrowly above the relegation positions.
Early in the match, Mateo Joseph of Mallorca delivered a corner kick to Vedat Muriqi, whose header missed the target, and Atlético also had an opportunity when David Hancko’s header went high.
Muriqi directed another header off-target following a pass from Sergi Darder, meanwhile, on the opposite side, Leo Román was required to make rapid saves from both Sorloth and Giuliano Simeone.
Atlético gained the advantage in the 22nd minute after Marcos Llorente’s potent volley was brilliantly parried by Román, but the rebound landed perfectly for Sorloth to smash into the net.
Julián Álvarez had a chance to increase the lead right before halftime, and Simeone nearly scored soon after the second half commenced, sending his header wide.
Román was compelled to block a shot from Pablo Barrios, and the midfielder then had another promising moment when his distant attempt narrowly missed an upright.
Atlético maintained their dominance, and Román managed to hold Sorloth’s strong header, yet Mallorca created an excellent opportunity when Muriqi headed just past the far post.
The home team extended their lead in the 75th minute when Llorente sent a dangerous cross through the penalty area, and Mateu Morey’s attempt to clear it struck López’s head from very close proximity, deflecting the ball into the goal.
Almada secured the match in the 87th minute by seizing a free ball from a corner kick and launching it into the top of the net.
