Aung La N Sang: ONE Championship Hall of Fame Induction at ONE 173

The foremost athletic icon of Myanmar concludes his storied career with the ultimate honor. Aung La N Sang dedicated two decades establishing a reputation that exceeded individual success to motivate an entire country through martial arts prowess.

The 40-year-old former two-division ONE MMA World Champion will be celebrated with his ONE Championship Hall of Fame induction at ONE 173: Superbon vs. Noiri on Sunday, November 16, held inside Tokyo’s Ariake Arena. He accompanies Demetrious Johnson and Bibiano Fernandes as the third athlete honored with this exclusive distinction. He concluded his fighting chapter with a second-round TKO against Zebaztian Kadestam at ONE Fight Night 36 in October.

His professional record demonstrates ample information about consistent performance. Fifteen triumphs in 11 years position him third, trailing only Christian Lee and Rodtang Jitmuangnon in organizational records. An 87 percent rate of victories by stoppage shows he rarely depended on the judges’ decisions.

However, statistics do not fully represent what Aung La N Sang signified to Myanmar. His submission victory over Vitaly Bigdash in June 2017 recognized him as the country’s initial World Champion across all sports. That specific occasion transformed Thuwunna Indoor Stadium into a place of veneration that evening.

The triumph inspired a community of dreamers throughout Myanmar who recognized their personal hardships depicted through his voyage. From employment as a nomadic beekeeper after departing from his residence to attaining the accolade of six-time ONE World Champion, he symbolized perseverance that extended beyond martial arts.

Aung La N Sang achieved distinction as two-division ONE World Champion and received permanent monument in Myanmar

Aung La N Sang’s efforts in 2018 went beyond his initial championship milestone. He won the ONE Light Heavyweight MMA World Title by overcoming Alexandre Machado in Yangon, entering an excellent cluster of two-division ONE World Champions.

Few fighters easily transition across weight categories while maintaining dominance in both. He achieved this feat through poise and resolve, harmonizing his nation each instance his hand was lifted before numerous spectators who celebrated shared triumphs rather than individual successes.

That equivalent year featured acknowledgment no competitor foresees throughout their prime years. Myanmar built a bronze statue within his hometown of Myitkyina portraying him in a fighting position.

His tenure generated numerous outstanding events, most notably his conflict against Ken Hasegawa at ONE: SPIRIT OF A WARRIOR in 2018. The pair exchanged blows until he sealed an impactful fifth-round TKO.

The competition ranked as number one within ONE’s “100 Greatest Fights” report issued that year, broadly distinguished as one of the best conflicts in promotional history. Fans still recall that occasion as the instance his reputation grew unchallenged throughout Myanmar and beyond.
