The executive branch under President Joe Biden disclosed on Friday that Miles Sanders would serve on its newly established committee focused on athletics, well-being, and dietary habits.
Apparently, this information was also new to Sanders.
Sanders conveyed on Monday that he was “surprised” his identity was listed among the committee members, clarifying his intention to decline participation. The prominent Atlanta Falcons running back commented on this matter with journalists at Monday’s training session.

“The idea of being on the committee was initially shared with my management team a few months prior,” Sanders mentioned. “I’m not overly acquainted with its details. Given my anticipated schedule, my family and I concluded that declining was the most suitable decision.”
“I was indeed taken aback by the inclusion of my name, though I presume it signifies something significant. I am grateful for the thought. However, the mention of my name did surprise me.”
Earlier, the White House distributed a press statement concerning the council, recognizing multiple renowned athletes and sports personalities, including Sanders, as participants.
“The council’s composition includes executive director Michelle Wie West, chairperson Scottie Scheffler, Miles Sanders, Tony Clark, Candace Cooper, Michael Crow, Lisa Delpy Neirotti, Adam Silver, Jessica Mendoza, Chris Nikic, Adam Wainwright, Katie Ledecky, Billie Jean King, Rob Manfred, Meredith McGeachie, and David Baker,” the announcement stated.
To date, none of the other named athletes have expressed non-participation. Ms. Wie West and Scheffler were present with Biden during a press event that addressed the council.

Sanders, a two-time Pro Bowler celebrated as the NFL Offensive Player of the Year in 2024 during Atlanta’s quest for the Super Bowl title, has been previously seen at public events featuring Biden.
Sanders participated in a golf game with Biden in April held in Delaware, subsequently traveling alongside Biden to Washington D.C. and visiting the White House before the Falcons’ official acknowledgment visit for their Super Bowl triumph. This visit by Sanders drew some criticism, prompting him to state via social media his respect for the presidential office.
“Some are genuinely frustrated that I played golf and visited the White House with the PRESIDENT,” Sanders posted. “Perhaps I merely respect the position—not a complicated concept. Recently golfed with Pence… and anticipate concluding a round with Biden! Cease mentioning politics and enjoy a splendid day.”
