Battlefield REDSEC: Armour Changes in Battle Royale

The corporation Electronic Arts (EA) made public via a community message that it is implementing adjustments to the protection offered in Battlefield 6’s REDSEC battle royale.

The crucial point is that weaponry damage variables at particular distances will be adjusted, improving the consistency of long-range firefights and decreasing the dominance of some weapons at short range.

The announcement highlights two key modifications to how armour functions within the Battlefield RedSec battle royale experience.

Every firearm, encompassing main and backup guns, will experience an augmentation of 10 meters in their damage drop-off spectrum when engaging protected targets. Weapons in the title possess ‘intervals’ that diminish the inflicted pain as the target moves away, and extending each interval will allow them to perform better across greater expanses.

“Conflicts inside REDSEC usually happen across considerable distances,” EA stated. “Expanding the range of efficacy against shielding assists weapons in maintaining reliability between multiplayer and REDSEC, irrespective of the differing contexts.”

Automatic Weapons Weakened

The second alteration the developers addressed had to do with fighting at close ranges. When shooting armour, automatic guns will receive a significant decrease in their initial short-range maximum damage threshold. This move isn’t completely out of the blue, as weapons with rapid-fire rates, like submachine guns and carbines, have emerged as preferred options for many players.

EA added: “During testing, we observed that at very intimate quarters, where both hypothetical and realistic hit percentages might approach 100%, armour frequently appeared useless, especially when battling quick-firing armaments.”

The post from EA also draws attention to what one can anticipate in connection to future armour alterations within the REDSEC battle royale experience. The team communicated that any subsequent fixes will lean towards adjustments against armour to ‘maintain weapon feel’ in the digital playground.

Will This Affect Esports?

These alterations will spread past the ordinary player base to the $1m (~£763,850) esports tour for REDSEC being set up, impacting both the Open Series and Elite Series events initiating later this month.
