Belinda Moore is set to depart from her position overseeing women’s and girls’ rugby at the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) this coming March, having accepted a new role with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) as the growth director for The Hundred competition.
Despite having served in the capacity for slightly more than a year, her agreement had previously been prolonged, pushing her tenure beyond the 2025 Rugby World Cup hosted in England, specifically until the conclusion of the 2026 Women’s Six Nations tournament.
This individual, who previously held the chief executive position at Premiership Women’s Rugby (PWR), had been assigned the responsibility of revolutionizing the sport, encompassing everything from talent development pathways to full professionalism, and also enhancing the overall environment following the Welsh Rugby Union’s Independent Review conducted in 2024.
Prior to her departure from the post, Moore is scheduled to participate in discussions concerning the contractual agreements for the premier female players representing Wales.
In a statement to BBC Sport, Moore conveyed: “The fundamental objective was consistently to initiate the integration of the women’s game within the Welsh Rugby Union framework, alongside pinpointing and securing the individual who would take over my responsibilities.
“It’s undeniable that this past year presented difficulties following the recent World Cup efforts, yet there’s a truly promising pool of young talent emerging, and these athletes are demonstrating exceptional skill within the recently expanded Celtic Challenge tournament.
“During last season’s Six Nations, we witnessed an unprecedented attendance for a Wales women’s fixture when England visited the principal venue for Welsh rugby.
“This illustrates the rapid progression of women’s rugby in Wales, to the extent that it’s now a standard expectation for the national squad to compete in international matches at what is considered the world’s premier stadium.”
