Best College Football Uniforms: Rutgers, Oregon & More (Week 4)

The Rutgers team is encouraging its fanbase to participate in a “blackout” theme for their Friday evening contest against Iowa, and they will be showcasing uniforms that complement this concept.

Typically recognized for their red attire, as their team name suggests, the Scarlet Knights will see a shift in Week 4, where their customary scarlet color will take a backseat as a supporting hue.

This week, the Scarlet Knights will sport a black helmet, a black jersey, and black pants, aiming to achieve a 4-0 record for the second consecutive year. The last instance of Rutgers securing four straight victories in back-to-back seasons occurred during the 1960 and 1961 seasons.

Scarlet will be utilized as an accent color on the jersey, embellishing the numbers, emblems, and the Rutgers name displayed on the front.

The Scarlet Knights are not alone in showcasing unique uniforms this weekend. Here’s a collection of noteworthy uniforms from various teams across the nation in Week 4 of the college football season.

Kansas is adopting a similar approach to Rutgers, implementing blackout-themed jerseys.

Alongside the conventional all-black foundational ensemble, Kansas’ “Dark Mode” uniforms exhibit blue jerseys accented with red outlines, a white nameplate, and a reimagined Jayhawk insignia on the helmet.

Throughout its alliance with Nike, Oregon has presented a multitude of uniform designs, with its most recent one paying homage to the individual responsible for forging that connection: Phil Knight.

Referred to as “Shoe Duck” — a playful nod to Knight’s autobiography released in 2016 titled “Shoe Dog” — the uniform embraces an anthracite color scheme as the primary color for both the jersey and pants. The helmet stands out as the most intricate aspect of the tribute, incorporating various references to both Nike and the university. A matte marble pattern constitutes the foundation, featuring asymmetrical wing patterns on either side. One wing symbolizes the Ducks’ mascot, while the other represents Nike, the Greek deity of triumph.

Supplementing Oregon’s “O” emblem, the back of the helmet showcases a gold bar honoring Nike co-founder Bill Bowerman’s military service during World War II, along with the phrase “Just Do It” in block lettering.

Adopting an all-gold color scheme for a uniform can be challenging, but Charlotte has successfully achieved it for their Week 4 uniforms.

The 49ers are set to take the field on Thursday night against Rice in a stylish ensemble that includes a gold helmet, gold jersey, and white pants. A white brick motif introduces a refined detail as a central stripe on the helmet, while green serves as the outline for the jersey’s “Charlotte” inscription and numbers.

The upcoming Saturday game marks the final Iron Skillet encounter for the foreseeable future between SMU and TCU, and the Mustangs are determined to conclude the rivalry with a triumphant victory, doing so in a stylish manner.

SMU will be combining a timeless all-blue jersey and pants combination with a unique helmet – the team’s alternate Dallas-inspired helmet, which features the team’s mustang emblem positioned within a magnified “D.”

Utah is scheduled to host Texas Tech in Week 4 for a ranked match that presents both teams with an initial opportunity to make a significant impact in the Big 12 title contention.

In a uniform selection befitting the importance of the game, Utah is unveiling its “Ute Proud” design, incorporating several intriguing elements. In addition to an all-red jersey and pants ensemble, the uniform showcases a distinct number font and a helmet adorned with Ute tribe-inspired patterns.

Liberty has showcased a strong collection of uniforms this season, a trend they intend to continue with their upcoming match against James Madison on Saturday.

Liberty’s uniform selection for this week will feature a blue-on-blue theme, incorporating two shades of the color in the Flames’ attire. Dark navy will serve as the base for the helmets, jerseys, and pants, while a vibrant light-blue shade will stand out in the number outlines and script lettering on the helmets and jerseys.

A patriotic theme adds a unique element to Virginia Tech’s uniform this week as they aim to secure their first victory of the season.

In addition to their customary white-and-maroon attire, the Hokies’ helmets for Week 4 will display a stars-and-stripes motif. The patriotic design will be featured on a central stripe on the helmet and on the script “Hokies” logo located on both sides.
